Wayne Kyle: [to his sons] There are three types of people in this world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Some people prefer to believe that evil doesn’t exist in the world, and if it ever darkened their doorstep, they wouldn’t know how to protect themselves. Those are the sheep. Then you’ve got predators who use violence to prey on the weak. They’re the wolves. And then there are those blessed with the gift of aggression, an overpowering need to protect the flock. These men are the rare breed who live to confront the wolf. They are the sheepdog.
[He then takes off his belt and places it on the dinner table.] And we’re not raising any sheep in this family. And I will kick your ass if you turn into a wolf. [Mrs. Kyle interjects by saying, “Wayne.” She fears that he’s becoming too aggressive.]
But we protect our own.
Wayne Kyle: [looking at his eldest son, Chris Kyle] Now if someone tries to fight you, or tries to bully your little brother, you have my permission to finish him.
Chris Kyle: The guy was picking on Jeff.
Wayne Kyle: Is that true?
Jeff Kyle: Yes sir. He was.
Wayne Kyle: [looking at Chris Kyle] Did you finish it?
Chris Kyle: [He nods, as to say, “Yes.”]
Wayne Kyle: Then you know who you are. You know your purpose.

Sheep Dog Origins
The above quote is taken from the beginning scene of the movie, American Sniper. The story is about a sniper named Chris Kyle who served in the war after 911. The scene was based on a period of his life when was a child. His father, Wayne Kyle, was explaining, to his two sons, the three types of people in the world. He was telling them that the Kyle men were not sheep and not wolves.
However, as we go a little deeper, we find that this was not in Chris Kyle’s autobiography. As is usually the case with Hollywood, it was added in. But I must admit, it fit perfectly.
The sheep dog philosophy is the creation of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman in his 1995 book, On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society. He was previously in the Special Forces and a psychologist who taught at West Point.
Basically, Grossman, said that, based on accounts of war, it has been noticed that humans don’t like to kill and try their best to avoid killing. However, the modern military has created the ability to train soldiers better to kill. He also said that some soldiers are naturally gifted at killing and don’t have to be pushed into it.
In his 2004 book, On Combat, Grossman goes further to explain this concept:
“If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen: a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath—a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence and a deep love for your fellow citizens? Then you are a sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero’s path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.”
I have my own opinion
This is his philosophy. I somewhat disagree. I believe that men were created to be the protectors of their families, their society, their nation, the world, and all of creation. We, as males, like all other male species, are given the physique and intellect to protect our territory and what belongs to us (our families and communities).
I believe that, among mankind, it (the spirit to protect and kill) must be taught and cultivated to refine that nature. I do believe that some men have more of this than others. But to be a man, it is in our soul and nature to feel that we can protect what we love. If we run when danger comes, our women and children will lose faith and security in us to protect them. We will feel useless.
But I digress…
Men need to be acknowledged and awarded for being men
It is my opinion that men need to be awarded for being men, and women need to be awarded for being women. For humanity to get back in accord with God, we need to encourage and acknowledge the good. The human species is influenced by encouragement for good or bad. Unfortunately, today, males are awarded for being other than God’s standard of a man, and females are awarded for being masculine and even whores. Men are chastised for being men, and women are chastised and called weak for being women. So, what happens? Male youth are encouraged to be effeminate, and female youth are encouraged to be masculine or whores. This causes society to spiral out of control. To save society, we have to make a change right now!
(Sidenote: This is America; you have the freedom to be whatever you want to be. If you want to be a queer male, that’s your business. If you want to be a masculine female or even a slut, that’s your business. What I and other people have a problem with is that certain groups are attempting to push their lifestyles down our throats and influence our children with their filth as we attempt to place traditional Godly morals in our children. That’s our problem, and the American people are getting tired of it. Other than that, live your life.)
Here at the Virdoe Society, we not only teach on the subject of manhood and discuss the news from a man’s point of view, but we also acknowledge men for acting like men. Today, we must acknowledge a special young man. We would like to acknowledge Mr. Elisjsha Dicken for his Sheep Dog Spirit!
The Backstory…
As of today, this is what we know. On Sunday, July 17, 2022, a mass shooting occurred at Greenwood Park Mall in Greenwood, Indiana.
Douglass Sapirman
The shooter, Jonathan Douglas Sapirman, left his apartment and walked a mile to the mall. While on foot, he carried:
- Glock 33 pistol
- Sig Sauer M400 semi-auto rifle
- Smith & Wesson M&P15 AR-15 semi-automatic rifle
- 100 rounds of ammo
He carried all of this on his person, on foot, and no one saw this and thought enough to contact the police. Once he got to the mall, he went into the bathroom near the food court and stayed there for approximately an hour. Upon leaving the bathroom, he began firing into the food court at around 5:56 pm.
The first three people he killed were Latino. Is this a coincidence? We don’t know. He first killed a man by the name of Victor Gomez, who was standing near the bathroom. Then he shot into the food court, killing a Latino couple, Pedro and Rosa Pineda. He next shot a 22-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl.
Mr. Elisjsha Dicken was at the mall with his girlfriend that day. Seeing what was happening, and carrying a Glock himself, he stepped in to do something about the terrorism that he was witnessing. At 40 yards, he attempted to stop the threat, hitting the assailant with eight rounds. The assailant tried to run back to the bathroom but collapsed due to the bullet wounds that he received from Mr. Dicken. Mr. Dicken stopped the domestic terrorism that was taking place in the mall.
Once he stopped the threat, Mr. Dicken approached the mall security to inform them that he was the one who had stopped the threat. He waited until the police got there, and he was eventually cleared of what happened. He was given the name “The Good Samaritan” by the police department.
As for the shooter, Jonathan Douglas Sapirman, the police are still investigating the cause of his actions. Before he committed his heinous act, he cooked his laptop in the oven. So, the Feds are trying to salvage any information from his heat-damaged laptop. He also placed his cell phone in the toilet. They found some Nazi rhetoric of his online, and he hinted at committing a heinous action online. As time goes on, I’m sure more information will be revealed.
As of now, the police officials and state officials have asked the citizens of Indiana and America to give Mr. Dicken and his family some space as he attempts to process what happened.

The Virdoe Society would like to give you our Sheep Dog Award. We thank you for protecting the sheep from the wolf. We thank you for not cowering when evil came and for putting yourself in the line of danger to protect us. Sapirman had enough rounds to murder at least 100 people had you not acted.
We are told that you had no police or military training. We are told that your grandfather taught you how to shoot proficiently. We thank your grandfather. You have encouraged more men to train other men to be sheepdogs. Thank you for your example and service.
