You Have To Be A Man First

 

In a YouTube lecture titled, “Gorgeous Dre Brings the real again…” He goes a level deeper on the concept of “…being a man first.”  In this lecture he gave a response to the to people who sent him emails and letters, asking him to comment on the reality show “The Preachers of L.A.”.  I personally don’t really care for reality shows, so I don’t know what was going on, on the show but I suspect that the males who were “preachers” had some questionable characteristics.  

 

Anyway, he responded as such:

 

“People keep writing me and wanting me to respond to comments on this show, The Preachers of L.A.  And I thought about it…being that I had experiences with the church and the streets.  I felt that I could give my assessment of not just The Preachers of L.A. but preachers as a whole.  

You know I’ve made this statement before.  In American Pimp I said that before you’re anything you have to be a man first.  And that my father would impress that to me often.  And let me know that, manhood and what it stood for would be paramount in my life.  

And so if I could say something about that show and about some preachers in general I would say that:

 

There’s a lot of males that’s good at being a preacher, but bad at being a man.  

 

And I think what has happened, is that people have clumped that together and they think that it goes hand in hand.  That because a person is a prolific speaker that somehow this makes him that as a man.  In my experiences, I understand that this is false.  

There’s some pimps that are good at being pimps, but bad at being a man.  There are some sports figures that are good at sports; And actors that are good at acting but bad at being a man.   

And because things have been clumped together, there’s this false idea because you’ve gained particular success in your life that somehow you are somebody to be lifted up with esteem in your manhood.  Or to be followed.  

And so if you have a generation of people following a celebrity because they have achieved some status in their field.  Or a sports figure, because they’ve achieved some success in  playing sports this obviously at some point you’ll find out that the problem within our people and people following these individuals is that they haven’t separated the two.  

But I grew up understanding that you have to separate the two.  I grew up understanding that whatever you achieved in your career is quite different than what you could achieve as being a man.  The fundamentals of manhood…”

 

When I first sat down with my mentor, he explained that he often had to explain to the males that came to him about women or their career issues, that the first thing that he had to do was to get them on the right path to manhood.  He explained to us that we are the main problem in our life issues.  He taught me that once he got us straight, everything else would be easy.  He explained to me, that if I learned the fundamental principles of manhood, I would become a giant in all areas of my life.  He explained that the problem in all males’ lives was the male…not the world…not the woman.  The problem was the man!

What did my mentor mean by “Before you’re anything”?  That “anything” referred to the different roles in a man’s life.  What roles I am talking about?  Let’s list some roles:

  • Husband
  • Father
  • Uncle
  • Brother
  • Son
  • Career:Employee, CEO, Doctor, Nurse, Lawyer, Govt. Employee, State Employee, Police officer, News Commenter, etc.
  • Soldier/NCO/WarrantOffcier/ Commissioned Officer of the military
  • Gangster/Pimp/ Gangbanger/etc.
  • Entrepreneur 
  • Investor
  • Entrepreneur
  • Lover/boyfriend
  • Friend
  • Fighter
  • President of the United States of America (or any other country)
  • Religious leader: Priest/Preacher/Pope/etc.
  • Sports Star
  • Actor
  • Entertainer
  • Teacher
  • Coach
  • Life Coach
  • Manager
  • Etc.

 

We as men all have different roles in our lives. And to be honest, many of us have issues in some of these roles because we have shadiness in our manhood.  We have some weaknesses and usually, it’s because we have some unmanly characteristics.  And usually, it’s because of our ignorance of the fundamental principles and conduct of manhood.

 

The first key is that we must separate the man from these roles.  The role of being a man must come first before these roles.  And before the role of manhood only comes your allegiance to your God-your Creator.  And after God, our manhood must be the second most important thing in our lives.  We must learn about the arts and sciences of manhood and we must live it.  And the promise is that, once you understand it and live the way of the man, the promise is that you will become a giant in any field of endeavor that you choose and you will become a giant in any of the roles that I previously mentioned. 

 

Remember, that just because you can become good in any of these roles, they won’t make you great in the realm of manhood.  BUT, if you become great in mastering and then living the fundamental principles and the conduct of manhood, this will make you a giant in any of the roles I just mentioned.  

 

So today I ask you:

 

  • Do you want to be a great husband?  Then master manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great father?  Then master manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great brother? Then master Manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great CEO?  Then master Manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great employee?  Then master Manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great Doctor?  Then master Manhood.  
  • Do you want to be a great Nurse?  Then master Manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great Lawyer?  Then master Manhood.
  • Do you want to be a great Govt./State Employee?  Then master Manhood
  • Do you want to be a great Police Officer that’s respected and admired by everyone in the right side of the law and the left side of the law (possibly saving your life because of your respected character)? Then master Manhood
  • You want to become a great soldier that rises to the top in the military?  Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be a Military Officer that skyrockets up the ranks and is respected by his peers and the soldiers?  Then master manhood.
  • You want to excel and be respected in the underworld of being a Gangster, Pimp, Gangbanger, etc.? Then, master manhood
  • You want to excel as an investor respected by all and trusted? Then master Manhood
  • You want to excel and be trusted by all as a great entrepreneur? Then master Manhood
  • You want to be a great lover?  Respect by all the women in your life.  That will vouch for you in an honorable way? Even when its over?  Then master manhood.
  • You want to be a great fighter that’s respected by his peers? Then master manhood.
  • You want to be remembered as a great President by your people and the world?  Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be loved and respected by your flock and the world as a religious leader? Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be a giant in your  sport and respected amongst your peers and the world? Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be a giant as an actor?  Then master Manhood.  
  • You want to be a giant as an entertainer that’s respected and honored by his peers and others in the business and outside the business?  Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be a giant as a teacher?  And respected and honored by students and peers? Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be a giant and respected and respected and honored as a coach (and Life Coach)? Then master manhood.
  • You wan to be a great citizen in your nation? Then master Manhood.
  • You want to respected and admired in the organizations, societies and clubs that you belong to?  Then master Manhood.
  • You want to be respected, admired and trusted amongst your entire family? Then master Manhood.

 

Mastering Manhood will make you a giant in any role or endeavor that you choose.  Isn’t that the innate desire of all men?  He may not admit it but he desires it. It’s in his nature to desire it.  It is the fuel that powers us.   He may not believe that he has what it takes to attain it.  Well the key to attaining this level is to become a man first.  

 

Not Only That

 

Not only that, but the Creator has placed it into the female nature and your children’s nature to desire the presence of a man in their life.  And you can’t unlock what’s in the woman’s nature to give you-until you manifest manhood.  The ‘honey” that’s in her will only pour out of her, when the man that’s in you is manifested.  

 

Your sons need to see a man so that he knows what a man is and how to pattern himself.  Your son needs to see how a man treats a woman so that he knows how to treat a woman.  A son needs a man to show him how to navigate into this realm called manhood.  Your son needs to see how a man navigates through life.  A son needs to see how a man leads in a household and outside the house.  He needs to be taught and trained.  And only a man can do that.  But his father must be a man first in order to teach and train this.

 

Your daughters need to see a man to be able to identify what a man is when she begins to look for a suitor.  She needs to see how a man treats a woman, so she knows what she deserves as a woman.  She needs what a man gives a daughter-as a father so that she properly psychologically develops into a woman.  And the principles of manhood protects him from committing grave errors that could destroy his daughters trust in men. 

 

Conclusion
