I’ve seen some wild things in my life. But last week was disturbing. Three of my colleagues sent me a video of a particular incident that happened last week somewhere down south. I think it was in Texas. I had no idea what I was about to see. And my coworker knew that I didn’t know what was to come.
The Characters
Before we jump into the story, let’s get the characters down so that you are not confused when I begin to use names in the story:
- Chad Read: Man that was fatally shot. He’s the ex-husband of Christina Read He and Christina share a 9-year-old son
- Kyle Carruth: Kyle is the boyfriend of Jennifer Read
- Christina Read: Chad Read’s ex-wife and child’s mother
- Jennifer Read is Chad’s current wife
The Backdrop
On Friday, November 5, 2021, Mr. Chad Read, his current wife, and his stepdaughter went to pick up his 9-year-old son from his ex-wife. He obviously has visitation rights to pick up his son at 3:15 pm. Again at 3:15, he arrives at the house and his ex-wife tells him that his child is not there. And apparently, she has done this on more than one occasion.
Her boyfriend’s name is Kyle. In the argument, he is speaking as if it’s his house. Is he living with Christina or is Christina living with Kyle? It is uncertain. Also, someone else was in the house at the time of this incident.
At this time we only have two recordings, one of Chad’s current wife, and another recording from someone inside the house.
So far, as the video starts to record, we see Chad and Kyle in front of each other:
Chad Read: Where’s my son?
Christina: I don’t have him.
Kyle: (Is about to speak, when Chad cuts him off.)
Chad: (Points to Kyle and says) “Shut your fucking mouth.”
Kyle: Get off my property
Chad: (He stands in front of Kyle with his arms open wide). Body language translation: Make me. (Chad may have said something to that effect also.)
(Kyle walks passively into the house. Chad follows him until Kyle walks into the house. Then he says, “Alright then”. He then turns to his ex-wife. Keeping distance from Christina, he begins his conversation.)
Chad Read: Where’s my son?
Christina: I’m about to go and get him.
Chad: I’ll go and get him. I’m supposed to have him at 3:15 pm. You’re playing games, telling me that I can pick him up at 6 p.m.? I already have the cops going to your mom’s house.
Christina: Why do you have the cops going to my mother’s house?
Chad: Because that’s probably where he is.
Christina:…(distorted…)
Chad: When I’m done working, I get him at 3:15 p.m.
Christina:…(distorted from the music in the background)
Chad: I don’t care if you want to see him or not, I get him at 3:15. You want to see him? You see him up until 3:15. You keep trying to keep my son from me, I’m fixin’ to drag you, Annmarie….
(Kyle walks out of the house with a long gun. He stays on the porch. He’s not pointing the gun at Chad.)
Kyle: I’m glad this is on video.
Chad: I am too!
Kyle: Leave! Right now! (Now Kyle gets bold and aggressive because of the gun in his hand.)
(Chad walks up on the porch to face Kyle now that he has become aggressive while brandishing a weapon)
Chad: Hell you better use it Mother Fucker!
(They are now chest bumping each other)
Chad: God dammit, I’ll take it from you!
Jennifer: Call 911!
Chad (while in Kyles face): Where’s my son?
Kyle: I don’t have your son.
(Chad chest bumps him again. Kyle steps back and shoots at the ground near chad’s feet)
Chad: You think I’m fucking scared little bitch?
(Chad grabs the rifle and flings Kyle off of the porch. He doesn’t pursue).
Chad: You think I’m fucking…
(Kyle raises the rifle towards Chad and double taps him in the chest. Chad drops and doesn’t move. )
Jennifer: Call 911! Call 911! I have it on video Kyle! You did it to him.
Kyle: I told you. I told all of ya’ll to leave.
Christina: He’s not here.
Jennifer: She should have told that! She should have told that.
Kyle:…none of ya’ll should be here. I asked all ya’ll to leave. I did everything. I didn’t want to do any of this.
What I See?
After watching the two videos multiple times, transcribing the interaction, and then talking to my friend that was a cop, I really began to see a lot of things. And this is what I saw:
1)Chad apparently has legal visitation rights.
Chad repeatedly said that he was there to pick up his son. He was specific about having rights to pick up his son at 3:15 pm. Furthermore, this incident happened on Friday, November 5, 2021. Which means that he probably had his son for the weekend. His ex-wife and her boyfriend weren’t shocked about him being there to pick up his son at 3:15. Christina even mentioned his work hours as a reason that she thought he wouldn’t be there on time. But he was adamant about picking up his son at 3:15 p.m.
2)They have been playing games with Chad by not having his son there for him to pick up.
This wasn’t the first time that Christina and Kyle did this to him. Chad and Christina share a 9 year old son, and Chad really enjoys spending the weekend with his son. Christina and Kyle like to prevent him from spending time with his son.
3 )Kyle told Chad to leave his property.
This is where Castle law comes into play. Even though Chad may have had legal rights to pick up his child, Kyle told him to leave. When he did not leave the property, Kyle knew that he could bring a fire arm into the equation because of the Castle law.
4)Kyle, Christina and her family knew where the son was.
The son doesn’t live with the mother. She said that she wanted to spend time with him also. Chad told her that she could spend all the time with their son before 3:15. So she has the son living somewhere else. If this was Kyle’s house, then she is living with Kyle and has the son living somewhere else.
5)Chad wasn’t a threat to Jennifer or anyone.
If Chad was violent or explosive, no man would leave his woman to talk to her ex-husband who had a history of being this way. He’d have to speak to the both of them. Especially when they knew the child wasn’t there again! He just walked into the house to let two parents speak.
Furthermore, Chad spoke to Christina from a distance. He never got close to her. People who are aggressive and violent will tend to enter your personal space. Chad never did this. It was all verbal. And he was fed up. And he was telling her that he would be bringing her and her family to court for hiding his child.
6)Kyle is scared of Chad.
In my opinion Kyle’s body language showed that he feared Chad. Furthermore, Kyle’s whole body language and voice changed when he came out of the house with the firearm. If he wasn’t scared of him, there would not have been such a serious contrast in body language with the firearm. That firearm gave him power.
7)Kyle escalated the whole situation by bringing a gun out.
There was no reason to bring out that firearm. Chad wasn’t trespassing. He had the legal right to pick up his son at 3:15. He didn’t disrespect Christina.
8)Chad doesn’t have any respect for Kyle.
Chad’s body language showed that he didn’t respect Kyle as a man. Why? I don’t know. (There is now some new information that’s coming out about Kyle. It is coming out that Kyle may have had an affair with Christina while she was still married to Chad).
9)Chad is way larger than Kyle.
Possibly the size difference is why Kyle is scared of Chad. Kyle appears to be between 5’6 to 5’8 and about 150 pounds or a little more. Chad looks to be over 6 ft. tall and over 200 pounds. Chad looked to be in his late 40’s to early to ’50s but in shape. (It’s been revealed that Chad was 54 years old.)
10)Chad should never have closed the distance with an armed man unless he was planning to disarm Kyle.
Closing distance with a guy with a gun, you’re now daring him to do something. When a man’s woman or children are in the vicinity, it is my observation that the male is now more apt to pull the trigger for pride’s sake. And if they are cowards, that’s extra gasoline on their ego.
11)Even though Kyle was wrong for bringing out the gun, Chad should have deescalated the situation.
Once Chad saw Kyle with the gun, he should have realized that now things have gotten out of control. To be honest, as soon as he realized that they were playing games with him again, he should have either called the police to find out where his son was or left and fought it out in court. Things got out of control when the gun came out. And obviously, this guy (Kyle) now had a large dose of courage.
